"I want to make some gingerbread cookies with you"....my two little munchkins will always say to me.....so roll up your sleeves, put on an apron and let's have some fun....
Let's pretend......it's smell like a gingerbread dough, it looks like a gingerbread dough and we can play with it, smash it, etc....what is it? It's a play dough!!! Gingerbread play-dough! Ohh, the house smells divine /and your hands, too/.
Add the splash of fun to the christmas season with play-dough. Guaranteed....lots of fun! Plus, it turns baking into creative play! Choose from 3 festive "flavours". Gingerbread, fudge or peppermint.
Gingerbread Playdough
1 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup salt
2 teasp. cream of tartar
1 tablesp. ground cinnamon
2 teasp. ground ginger
1 teasp. ground nutmeg
1 teasp. ground cloves
2 tablesp. vegetable oil
1 cup water
1 teasp. orange extract
In a medium saucepan whisk together dry ingredients. Mix in water, oil and orange extract and stir until a thick batter is formed. Cook the mixture over low heat until a thick dough forms. Turn dough onto parchment paper and knead until smooth.
Peppermint Playdough
2 cups water
2 cups flour
1 cup salt
4 teasp. cream of tartar
4 tablesp. vegetable oil
4 tablesp. peppermint extract
1 small bottle of red food colouring
Mix all ingredients in a heavy saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon, until mixture thickens and pulls away from the sides of the pan. Form dough into a ball, place on a parchment paper and cool completely.
Fudge Playdough
Use same ingredietns as above /for peppermint playdough/ instead peppermint extract use 4 tablesp. of cocoa powder.
Playdough is the perfect way to keep the kids entertained during the christmas season.
